MORE ABOUT GO-KART RACING FOR KIDS:

Recently we came accross an article that very nicely highlights the sport of go-kart racing as a positive outlet for kids. It describes the benefits and the types of racing activities in which boys and girls alike can get involved. We think you'll find it very informative. Take a look:

Positive Kids Sports - Get Them Involved in Racing

If you want your kids to be involved in a sport that not only they will love, but one that will teach them a lot of good lessons in their young lives, then get them involved in racing. Not only does it build good sportsmanship, hand - eye coordination, communication and thinking skills, but it also builds confidence as they know that they will always get to play, they don't have to wait for the coach to put them in.

One of the best types of racing that you can start your kids in (boys and girls alike) is karting. There is asphalt sprint karting, that is the type that most of your NASCAR drivers got their starts in and then there is dirt kart racing which uses the karts with the roll cages, much like the yard karts, but built to compete in. In the asphalt sprint karts there are several different types of tracks involved. Most of your kart tracks will involve some sort of road course with curves and turns of all sizes and shapes, and then there is just your round and round tracks, much like the dirt kart tracks.

Karting has become a very well known sport across the United States. There are many levels on which a driver of all ages can compete, locally, and nationally. Karting can also be seen on Speed Channel and you can surf the web to visit many tracks nationwide.

The best way to get started in karting is to go online and see if there are any local kart clubs in your area or close by. Once you locate a kart club or track, go and visit it and talk to the racers and their families there. You will find that everyone associated with racing will be more than glad to help you out by answering all of your questions and giving you guidelines on how to get started and what equipment to buy. Kids can start as early as age 5 and race until they are 80 if they want. You will also find that karting is a very affordable family sport. Everyone in the family can get involved and have fun together. Not only will it be fun for the family, but like our family, you will make many great friends across the United States while involved in karting. There are also many families that not only siblings race together but many dads and moms race as well.

We have first hand experience is karting, my husband raced for several years in the 70's and even was a State Champion. Then when our son showed an interest in racing at age 6, we started him racing in the dirt karts and then moved up quickly into the asphalt sprint karts. Kenny ran on the local and national levels while karting and earned several championships and also got the honors of racing in the TAG World Championships in New Castle Indiana in 2006.

Kenny is now 19 and still races but has moved up to another level in racing. This past year Kenny moved from the karts into the Mini Sprints, which is a scaled down version of the Outlaw Sprint Cars that race on dirt. The mini sprints or some call them micro sprints run a 600cc motorcycle engine. Kenny's karting experience has helped him in this transition very much even though it is a different type of racing. He had a very successful year racing with a local Mini Sprint Association and a few events outside of the Associations races. Kenny's next goal is to move into the full size sprint cars within the next several years.

Be sure to view Kenny's website at http://www.elwoodracing.com

As you can see racing can be a lifelong sport for your entire family, so get started racing and have fun!!!
