The dream of every child who had the space to use one, a GoKart might be considered the ultimate toy. Early on they were simply made of plywood and parts from lawnmowers, but in recent years have evolved into many different forms.
For those that love racing, GoKart racing has become a popular hobby and even a viable sport, with small GoKarts that can race down a track at a frightening speed. Other GoKarts are made to handle rough terrain and come equipped with ATV tires. Some may say that a GoKart is similar to an ATV, so why not purchase an ATV. Some of the benefits of a GoKart include some sort of Rollcage or Roll Bar, they are easy to drive, much like a regular automobile and quite comfortable.
If you're thinking of buying a gokart, you can click this link to begin to Shop for GoKarts.
Some GoKarts even have seating for 2 people, which make them a fun vehicle to enjoy with family and friends. A few large companies have begun to mass produce GoKarts and they're offered in both 2 stroke and 4 stroke models. IN terms of cost, they can start at less than $1000 and go up from there, based on power and options. It really doesn't matter if the GoKart is for a child or an adult; They're just fun to drive!

What kid wouldn't dream of zipping around in a dune buggy or go-kart. This has to be the ultimate toy. These great little vehicles are certainly a lot more exciting and family friendly than another afternoon spent caged indoors playing video games. One of the top choices for kids is the Razor Dune Buggy which is very favorably reviewed here. Read on for more information and ratings from purchasers.

Product Description |
| Want to give your child a little off-road entertainment? Turn to the Razor dune buggy, the ultimate in electric-powered backcountry cruising. Outfitted with a powerful 350-watt motor designed to reach speeds of up to 10 miles per hour, the buggy is fast enough for serious fun, but slow enough that it won't compromise your child's safety. Parents will also appreciate the side roll cage, which creates a barrier between the rider and the outside, and the padded bucket seat, which includes a seatbelt for added security. And thanks to the buggy's specially designed reduction drive, the vehicle is capable of both lower torque climbing and high torque gearing. Perhaps the coolest feature, however, is the fully electric design, which is not only easy to charge, but requires no fuel at all, runs quietly, and produces no emissions. Other details include eight-inch knobby pneumatic tires, an active rear suspension, a durable tubular steel frame with diamond-plate floorboards, hand throttle and brake controls, a rear disc brake, and a safety flag. Ideal for difficult tracks and terrain, the buggy supports up to 120 pounds of weight and is suitable for ages 8 and older. Key Features: - For ages 8+

So far, the best Razor product we've purchased.
|
| Review Date: January 10, 2008 |
| Reviewer: Greg Neville, San Diego |
And we've had a few of them. I have read many complaints about Razor and their customer service. Fortunately, my experience has been very positive. This is the fourth razor ride on toy that I've purchased and they have all performed wonderfully. My kid's pocket ROcket is almost 4 years old now, and is still working well on the original battery.
ANyway, THIS KART IS AWESOME! In addition to arriving fully assembled, and charged up, this thing does everything it claims. It's got great torque, crawls right through mud and over bumps and uphill, and is a very well constructed little buggy.
Like the MX350, I would prefer a footbrake, because my 3 year old can drive this thing, but can't squeeze the hand brake. OH well, he's younger than the recommended age so this is on me. THe motor provides more than enough " engine braking" anyway to bring the thing to a pretty rapid halt when you let off the gas.
I am verypleased in every way with this buggy.
Only notes:
The flag is Black, and really should be orange, and perhaps taller.
The tires are not the same ones pictures above. THey have a weird kind of mixed tread that is street ready in the center, with really aggressive treads on the sides. We'll see how long they last. Kind of cool, just not what I expected given the pic.
All the kids in teh nneighborhood seem to think it's fast, but my kids have been riding these kinds of toys since before they could walk, and this one could maybe use a higher top speed. But to sacrafice a bit of speed for what is pretty incredible torque is a worthy tradeoff.
For the price, there really isn't a better toy for a little kid.
My boys are 3 and 5 and are just in heaven with this car.
Battery lasts them full throttle for about an hour. |
Razor Dune Buggy Better Then Expected!
|
| Review Date: December 27, 2007 |
| Reviewer: F. DEWITT, Downey, CA, USA |
After having a "real" Dune Buggy years ago, I purchased two Razor Dune Buggies for my grandchildren for Christmas (6 1/2 and 8 yrs old). The order was delivered much faster then expected and the only thing I had to do is add a little air to the tires and charge the batterys.
The Buggy is belt extremely well and because the tires have groves for off road riding, it moves over grass and smooth surfaces much better then other ride on toys. The hand controls were easy for the kids to operate and the 6 1/2 yr old had no problems at all. And "yes" it definitely travels FAST enough!
I believe a child over 10 yrs old would probably be too large to ride comfortably, but the Buggy would probably carry them easily any way. The battery lasted a good 45 minutes or more, and ran full throttle most of the time.
There are many-many safty factors built in and the Manual gave good safety rules and advice. This also was very important to me AND the kids.
I've purchased other Razor products, and as usual Razor didn't let me down. Great product.......great service.......and this grandma even rode it and for a few minutes became a kid once again. Go for it......... |
WoW and WoW!

| That's right, WoW! I purchased through a store because I found one nearby that had one in stock. We pulled it out of the box Christmas Morning to find it-- COMPLETELY ASSEMBLED! I didn't break the news to my eager 8 year old son that he'd have to wait all day for the battery to charge. I decided to read the instructions first. The very first line under charging instructions read, if the battery isn't already fully charged--:o Huh? Why would the battery be fully charged? Curious, I flipped the switch to on, lifted the back wheels and pressed the throttle. That's right! The battery was fully charged. Isn't Santa thoughtful. It ran full throttle the entire 45 minutes and made one 8 year olds Christmas the best ever. His mom was very happy too! It runs in the yard on the street, and steers great. I want to take it back to the store so I can buy it again! Really though, what a delight. |
The rest of the story (what they say in the manual that you want to know)

I bought this product because my 2 kids (aged 6 and 7.5) want a "little car". They always wanted a "power wheels" and still do! But I wouldn't buy one then and I'm certainly not going to buy one now.
This product seemed like a good solution - its not as fast as the Razor go-kart - 8mph vs 12 mph. And the idea that it is "off-road entertainment" is very compelling as we have some hard packed dirt paths nearby. I disliked the razor go-kart because it requires the kids to either drive in the street OR in a parking lot which didn't seem super safe, and also seemed like it would get boring sooner. I like the idea that we could take this to many parks and just run around.
I was very curious to see what the owners manual said, and I'm going to share that with you. We all know that owners manuals can be a bit restrictive, but, it does say what it says for a reason.
Keep in mind, I think this is a great product, but I think you deserve the full disclosure! Pros and Cons at the bottom.
1) The first page out of the box says "this product is not a toy... suitable for use only by persons ages 13 and older". WOW!! And all over the Amazon page it says 8 years old. Now I'm sure this is something the lawyers made them add, I bet some 9 year old got hurt. But: use your judgement! (and read #4)
2) The initial charge time is 18 hours. In other words, Christmas eve. Not a biggie, but you aren't supposed to use it "right out of the box" as another review has said.
3) Recharge time: 12 hours. Yes, you are going to get up to 45 minutes of fun - PER DAY. If you are on the fence about electric vs. gas, this might push you to the gas powered model. Extra battery is $55. I'm sorely tempted to buy one before xmas and have both charged because ... I have 2 kids! (I can't afford 2 dune buggies)
4) It **DOES** have a throttle adjustment (which you set with an alan wrench). I am going to do this for Xmas day! I hope it extends the battery life. In other words, I will limit the max speed and let my 7 and a half year old ride it anyway. i think they will be thrilled even at 5 mph, and after they master it I can le them have the full power.
5) Page 4: Vehicle does not run when rolling backwards. This is why a parent has to be around. The brake just stops you temporarily. As soon as you release, you keep rolling backwards. Obviously, brake+accelerate+release brake OR if you are out of power turn the wheel and go sideways until you stop. But this is not going to be obvious to some children.
6) No reverse. This is good and bad for reasons you can guess.
7) Page 5: "If the vehicle runs sluggishly: Driving conditions are too stressful. Use only on solid, flat clean and dry surfaces such as pavement or level ground." To me, this means its not REALLY offroad. I already knew that "dune buggy" was wishful thinking, but its more like a "parking lot buggy" the way this reads...
8) page 5: goes over "overheating". Apparently it has a circuit which limits the max speed ("cuts the power" didn't sound cool enough, I guess) and will even shut the unit completely off if it overheats.
USAGE:
Pros:
1) Accelerator is a thumb paddle. I think this is great! Very easy for children. Very safe. Its proven that your hand can move faster than your foot, and I'm sure that it will be easier for them to regulate the speed.
2) Parents can set the throttle. Very safe.
3) Slows quickly when accelerator is released. Brakes seem "optional" or maybe just for when you start rolling backwards (LOL).
4) Handles minor bumps (1 to 2 inches) with ease. This alone makes it waaay better than the go kart version, IMO... the soft tires help make it a more comfortable bump too.
Dings:
1) Low Power light: It has a light that lights up when battery power is "low". Nice! Cool! But, it would be nice if it had an audible bell tone, and if the manual would tell us if this is 5 minutes, or 3 minutes, or whatever... i really don't think many kids are going to notice this in the middle of having fun. I can already tell I'm going to be carrying this thing back from the hard packed dirt trails around my house - in my truck.
2) Clearance. The ground clearance is pretty bad, its only a couple inches. I don't think this thing has enough torque, and certainly no suspension. So, you are going to stay on the flat and level anyway.
Overall, i'd buy it again. I'm happy with it and I think its very safe. But, there are a few little details that I thought you might want to know :) Hope it helped. |
Terrific value for your money

My sons, ages 7 and 8, absolutely love this thing.
The Razor Dune Buggy is battery powered and charges up fairly quickly. I also was very pleased that it's not too fast; my sons actually go much faster on their bicycles and I think the Dune Buggy is easy to keep up with as a parent at a slow jog. The low center of gravity helps keep all four wheels on the ground at all times (read: they've never been able to flip it). :)
Drawbacks are minor, but important to note. The motor does produce an audible sound yet it cannot be heard from within a car. It is so low to the ground that cars will have difficulty seeing it, so to solve this it comes with a tall flag that installs on the back of the Dune Buggy.
You should also consider that the accelerator is not a pedal, it is actually a thumb lever on the steering wheel, so it is important that your child can manipulate a hand brake and a hand accelerator at the same time. I will say that all the kids on my street who have ridden it (between 6-9 yrs. of age) got the hang of it fairly quickly.
It has no key. There's a power switch on the back that the kids can flip on at anytime, so if you want to lock it down, you'll have to manually disconnect the battery cable (very easy to do).
Finally although it is called a "dune buggy", it is best suited for sidewalks and roads. The kart struggles to move up any incline on grass (it's obviously not AWD) and the narrow tires destroyed my new lawn quite nicely lol. Hard-packed dry dirt would be ideal terrain for this kart.
The best part was purchasing this on Amazon.com. The kart arrived in one big box, entirely pre-assembled, and the battery was pre-charged. I literally signed for the package and the kids were driving it in less than five minutes.
If your kids are a bit older and have the need for speed, this isn't your kart, yet if you want something for younger kids that is relatively safe, eco-friendly, and reliable, the Razor Dune Buggy is highly recommended. |
